Substitute Position Application Requirements
Thank you for your interest in substituting for the Lawrence Public Schools.
To be eligible for consideration as a substitute teacher for the Lawrence Public Schools, a valid Kansas Teaching Certificate/License, Kansas Standard Substitute Certificate/License, or a Kansas Emergency Substitute Certificate/License is required.

Online Application Process:
Every tab has a Help Screen. Read the Help Screen BEFORE completing a tab at the top of the screen. You can access the Help Screen two ways - On the top menu select the word HELP or at the bottom of screen select the icon with the ? mark. Required fields are designated with an *.
Here are some extra tips to use while completing the online application.
Online Employment Application. Complete each of the tabs beginning with the Preference tab.
- Preference Tab
- Employment Preference – select Certified
- Type – select Substitute
- Prioritize Position/Assignment Preferences – select from the drop down box either Substitute Teacher - Certified or Substitute Teacher - Emergency (do not select grades or subjects)
- Education Tab – Include all degrees earned. If you have not completed your degree, go back to the Preference Tab and in the Applicant's Comment box key in the number of college hours and where they were earned.
- Certificates Tab – Include all certificate(s)/license(s) and endorsement(s). The certificate number is optional. (The Kansas Teaching License number may be found on the Employer's Copy. When entering this Kansas Teaching License number, do not include hyphens.) If you have not received your certificate/license, enter the word PENDING.
- License Tab – Include other professional licenses (i.e. Registered Nurse).
- Skills Tab – Include any pertinent information.
- Experience Tab – Start with the most recent year. List all work experience for the last ten (10) years. In addition, list any work experience with children or youth.
- Reference Tab – List three professional/work related references (i.e. supervisor, college professor, cooperating teacher, principal, etc). In addition to the required fields, also include the address, city, state, and phone number for each reference. The required reference form will be automatically sent to your reference(s) if you enter the email address of your reference(s) and select SEND at the bottom of the screen.
- Inserts Tab – Complete the required Substitute insert (Substitute Reference Form) which is located under the Certified/Licensed Insert section. If you send the reference insert by email (see Reference Tab instructions), it will not be necessary to print the reference this insert.
- Upload Tab – You may copy and paste a resume and cover letter from your word processor.
- Summary Tab – Review your application, make any needed corrections/additions, and print a copy for your records. If you have not clicked on all the tabs listed above, you will NOT be able to view your summary page.
- Submit Application Tab – Read and respond to the questions in the Disclosure Statement section. Read the Authorization and Release information section. If you agree, type YES in caps and then select CONFIRM DISCLOSURE STATEMENT. The following message will appear on your screen–"Thank you for submitting your application. It is being transmitted to the District at this time and they will receive it shortly." At a later date, you will also receive an email from the Human Resources Department confirming we received your application.
If you update and/or make changes to your online application AFTER it has been submitted, press SAVE on the tab pages you changed or updated. DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION AGAIN! Your changes/updates are electronically transferred.

Incomplete Online Applications:
If you do not complete and submit your application within ninety (90) days, it will be removed from our online system.
Apply:
Sign on as a registered user, select Open Jobs, click on the certificated tab to see if the position "Substitute Teacher - Non-Contracted position" is posted. If the position is posted, select apply to be considered.
To proceed to the Online Application, click the Begin Icon below.
